Frequently Asked Questions About Furniture Painting & Upcycling

Whether you're considering a bespoke furniture commission or tackling your own DIY project, it's natural to have a few questions. Here's a handy list of the most common queries I get about painting and upcycling furniture — all answered with warmth, honesty, and a little farmhouse flair.

1. What kind of furniture can be upcycled?

Almost any solid piece! I typically work with dining tables, chairs, sideboards, dressers, coffee tables, and bedroom furniture. If it’s made of wood and has good bones, it can usually be transformed beautifully.

2. Do I need to strip or sand my furniture before bringing it to you?

Nope — leave that to me! I take care of all the prep work, from cleaning and sanding to priming and painting. All you need to do is share your vision (or ask for guidance — I’m happy to help).

3. Can you paint over dark wood or varnished finishes?

Absolutely. I use high-quality, durable paints and proper preparation techniques to ensure a smooth, lasting finish — even over glossy or dark wood.

4. How do I choose colours or finishes?

I’ll guide you through that part! We can chat about your space, your style, and what will work best for the piece and your home. Whether you love classic neutrals, soft sage greens, or something bold — we’ll find the right fit.

5. Will the finish be durable? Can I actually use it every day?

Yes — everything is sealed and finished with durability in mind. Kitchen tables, dressers, and sideboards can all be used daily once properly cured. I use trusted products to create a tough, wipeable finish.

6. Do you offer collection and delivery?

Yes, collection and delivery can be arranged. I’m based in Chipping Sodbury, and I’m happy to work with clients across the Cotswolds and surrounding areas. I also use trusted couriers for collections further afield, which means we cover the whole of the UK. We have worked with clients all over the UK from the North of England right down to the South.

Let me know your location, and I’ll confirm what’s possible.

7. Can you match my furniture to other pieces in my home?

Definitely — I can colour-match, coordinate styles, or create something complementary that ties in beautifully with your existing decor.

8. How long does a commission take?

Most pieces take between 4–6 weeks, depending on size and complexity. I’ll give you a timeframe upfront and keep you updated throughout the process.

9. How much does it cost?

Prices vary based on the size of the piece and the work involved. I’m always happy to provide a no-obligation quote — just send me a photo and a few details.

10. What if I don’t have a piece, but I want something made for me?

Great news — I also sell bespoke farmhouse tables, chairs, and benches, all painted and finished to your style. Let me know what you’re looking for, and I’ll show you what’s available or create something just for you.

If you’ve got a question I haven’t covered, feel free to get in touch here — I’d love to hear from you!

And if you’re ready to start your own commission journey, you can learn more on the commission page or simply send me a photo to get started.
